In the mid-1960s, Dr Geoffrey Porter established Brisbane’s first suburban ophthalmic specialist clinics in Queensland, Australia. Specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of eye conditions and providing the best possible outcomes for patients through extensive clinical knowledge, state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and advanced surgical techniques. The Mt Gravatt clinic rapidly became the busiest suburban practice in Porter Eye Care group serving Brisbane’s southern suburbs, while Annerley offered an eye care centre for the western suburbs.
Dr Rowan Porter is the strategic clinical advisor for the IDEAS van initiative. A fully mobile ophthalmic specialist centre, which he designed, with $1 million of state-of-the-art equipment spread across three treatment rooms, the IDEAS Van brings world-class facilities to rural and remote communities in an effort to substantially reduce blindness and visual impairment amongst regional Australians with diabetes. Together, Porter Eye Care provides much-needed regular outreach clinics to indigenous communities in Inala and Charlesville.
